The need for women role models is well documented in mass media as well as academic publications. Women Studies and Computer Science instructor, Pam Van Londen is seeking energetic students interested in building a long-term, self-supported organization which archives online video interviews of innovative women.
Up to six students per term can work in the following areas:
- Program planning
- Short-term planning to meet immediate need of interviews of local technology women.
- Long-term planning for self-supported organization expanding into all industries/arts areas around the world.
- Grant writing
- Goal is to receive funding to support staff and student interns, purchase equipment, and travel to interviews and conferences.
- Web project development
- Short-term development of a site to promote the organization’s mission, solicit donations, and link to existing interviews.
- Long-term development of a searchable database housing thousands of interviews for the K-12 and higher education audiences around the globe.
- Researching, interviewing, writing, and translating
- Short-term goal is to provide written interviews which correlate with video segments.
- Long-term goals include writing teaching materials which use the interviews and are available in multiple languages.
- Videography and post-production
- Goal is to produce no fewer than three interviews per term per student intern.
- Marketing and promotions
- Goal is to create world-wide awareness of the media being archived to encourage girls and women to pursue their dreams in all fields.
- Travel around the world
- Short-term goal may expect students to pay travel expenses depending on their chosen subject and distance from campus.
- Long-term goal expects world-wide travel to be paid via granting agencies.
